Finding Hope by Sr. Stan
On Tuesday 7th February Sr. Stan launched her latest book, Finding Hope, with former RTE Broadcaster and Journalist Charlie Bird at the Sanctuary. Charlie is one 70 people who have contributed to Finding Hope. Other contributors include Tánaiste Micheal Martin, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, the Dalai Lama, author Colum McCann and journalist Orla Guerin.
The book, dedicated to Charlie Bird, begins its journey in early 2022. Aware that we are living in extremely challenging times, with global poverty, climate changes and conflicts all across the world, and the many manifestations of the pandemic still affecting the lives of so many people, Sr. Stan was reflecting on hope and the important of hope in our lives.
As with her previous book, Finding Peace, she wanted to understand how other people found hope, and she invited 70 people, public figures as well as private citizens to share where they found hope in their own lives. Finding Hope poses the question “Where and how do you find hope in your daily life?” The responses from the contributors are deeply personal and honest and draw on their own experiences of hope and where they find hope in this troubled world.
Speaking at the launch, Sr. Stan said “I remember clearly, one of the first people I thought about asking to contribute to the book was Charlie, because he represents hope and courage. He is a model for us all, the manner in which he has faced his terminal illness is extraordinary and a great example of hope and resilience.”
Speaking about hope, Charlie said, “What gives me hope now, even though I have a terminal illness, is very simple - friendship. Sometimes in this busy world we take things for granted. But when you are facing ‘a dark moment’ the kindness and love of other people helps to lift my spirits.”
Another beautiful book compiled by Sr. Stan, filled with honest reflections from all the contributors. May it bring rays of hope to everyone who reads it.
